GREEN LAKE, WI (ABNS) -Paul LaDue, former President of American Baptist Assembly/Green Lake Conference Center from 1982 until his retirement in 1994, died March 8 after a period of illness. He was 73. LaDue came to Green Lake from Bolivar, MO, where he was Vice President for Financial Affairs and Assistant to the Chancellor for Estate Planning at Southwest Baptist College. Prior to that he served as Treasurer for the American Baptist Churches USA from 1973-1976. He was also President of the Warren Achievement Center; Vice President of Finance at Pepperdine University; Business Manager at Monmouth College; and Controller at Lake Forest College. Under his leadership at Green Lake, new conferences were started and facilities were improved through the Share the Closer Walk and Lighting the Way capital funds campaigns. The renovation of Roger Williams Inn was completed and Lawson Lodge was built. Lawsonia Golf Course was expanded from 18 to 36 holes, and a new clubhouse replaced the old. The Stewards of the Future estate planning program was started, Memory Lane was created, and a Long Range Plan was developed. Brad Carroll, Vice President of Operations and who served under Paul's leadership said, "We remember Paul for the great leadership that he gave to Green Lake. Through his commitment to the ministry of Green Lake, the conference center was transformed and set on course to become the premier Christian conference center it is today. Moreover, we remember Paul as a true friend and mentor who touched many of our lives." Since retiring in 1994, Paul and his wife Lucille have spent their summers serving Green Lake Conference Center as volunteers. On her husband's passing, Lucille LaDue said, "It was a precious time, with all our children, most grandchildren, Paul's sister and part of her family gathered around his bed, and our local pastor reading Scripture and praying." A memorial service for Paul LaDue will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at First Baptist Church, 316 N. Main St., Bolivar, MO 65613.
