NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - Orientation, the magazine for graduating high school seniors and first-year college students, is now a Web resource.
"The 'new' Orientation was unveiled in 1978, and the time is now right for Orientation Online," said executive and creative director Terri Hiers. "Today's students are very comfortable in communicating and receiving information electronically, so Orientation is now there on the Web for them as an e-zine. Change is good! We hope that an old favorite will soon be a new favorite."
Produced by the Office of Interpretation of the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry, the e-zine features news articles as well as past favorites, prayers, and links to United Methodist loans and scholarships, programs, and events of interest to students and faith communities on college and university campuses.
Copies of the printed version of the magazine are still available and can only be ordered from the Web site, www.gbhem.org/orientation.
The 28-year-old magazine and e-zine are intended to offer a "warm" spiritual welcome for students as they arrive on campus for the first time. They also are intended to challenge and inspire students with questions about God, faith, values and relationships.
Local churches or individuals can use the content for a discussion group for parents of college-bound students. Churches might also want to e-mail the Web link to college-bound students or publish it in their church newsletter.
Campus ministers, chaplains, and deans of students will find the e-zine useful as a resource for first-year students. The articles can be used as discussion starters for student orientation groups, support groups or peer ministry groups.
More information on the printed Orientation and Orientation Online is available from the Campus Ministry Section of United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry, P.O. Box 340007, Nashville, TN 37203-0007; telephone, (615) 340-7404.
