June 11, 2006, Grand Rapids, Mich. - Delegates to Synod 2006 gathered on Sunday afternoon for a service of prayer and praise at Sherman Street Christian Reformed Church.

Pastor David Kromminga challenged the church in a message based on Romans 12:1-8. He noted that it is easy for us - as individual Christians or as the church - to fall into the trap of thinking that we are better than others.

He said that rather than trying to exalt ourselves we should use "sober judgment" and trust God to do much with our little when we offer it to him. He also urged the Christian Reformed Church to appreciate the contributions made by other parts of the body of Christ.

The worship service was a mix of contemporary worship songs and hymns.

In the evening, delegates were invited to Calvin Theological Seminary to watch the video "Our Family Album" about the history of the Christian Reformed Church.

Synod resumes meeting with a brief plenary session on Monday morning, after which delegates returned to their committee work.
