VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS) - AB GIRLS, a program of American Baptist Women's Ministries, received a $1,000 grant from North American Baptist Women's Union (NABWU) to equip adult women leaders with skills to effectively mentor girls in American Baptist congregations.

In 2005, the National Leadership Team of AB GIRLS began to explore the issues of leadership training and networking among local leaders of girls' ministries. Encouraged by region women's ministry leaders, the team began work to offer training weekends for local leaders at geographically centralized sites. The events, to be planned in partnership with regions' AB Women's Ministries, will equip leaders in effective ways to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of girls, and how those needs differ by age.

The leadership events will be complimented by the new G.I.R.L.S. resource for girls' ministry leaders, currently being developed by AB Women's Ministries.

"NABWU has been so supportive of AB GIRLS over the years. Their generosity in helping to fund this project is vital in making it a reality," said Dawn Doerr, national coordinator of AB GIRLS.

North American Baptist Women's Union is one of seven continental unions related to Baptist World Alliance Women's Department. AB Women's Ministries is a participating member of NABWU and BWA Women's Department. NABWU awards grants from Baptist Women's Day of Prayer offering funds for Baptist women's ministry projects that benefit women and/or children.
