The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettsyburg (LTSG), Pa., acquired the Luther Institute, Washington, D.C., when the 24- member board of the Luther Institute voted June 27 to approve affiliation with LTSG, according to a July 21 seminary news release. LTSG is one of eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Luther Institute is a faith-based organization created in 1983 to address public issues within the framework of Lutheran theology.
The acquisition "is natural for Gettysburg Seminary," said the Rev. Michael L. Cooper-White, LTSG president, in the release. "The seminary has been anchored in the nation's capital since 1971," he said. "Gettysburg Seminary is highly committed to its Washington, D.C., presence, and this new relationship with the Luther Institute strengthens this longstanding commitment."
Due to lost funding from long-term grant sources, the Luther Institute had been searching for one or more partners since April 2006.
