From August 10-15, 2006 the Conference of European Churches (CEC), the
Lutheran World Federation (LWF), and the World Alliance of Reformed Churche s (WARC) in cooperation with the World Council of Churches paid a visit to Beirut and Jerusalem, expressing global ecumenical solidarity with the churches and the people of the region. The delegation included Rev. Jean-Arnold de Clermont (CEC President), Mgr. Bernard Aubertin (Roaman Catholic Archbishop of Tours-France) and Ms. Marilia Shuler (WCC program executive on racism).
The delegation met with high level government and religious leaders in both countries and heard their analyses of the situation as well as their concerns and positions regarding the destruction and suffering inflicted on the people, and the need for a lasting and just peace in the Middle East.
