The Rev. Isaiah Jones, renowned Presbyterian hymn-writer and worship leader, has been diagnosed with advanced leukemia. He will retire as pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Palo Alto, CA, and the end of April and has resigned as moderator of San Jose Presbytery. Jones gave up a lucrative career as a songwriter, musician and recording artist in Hollywood to attend seminary. He served as a pastor in Pacific Presbytery and as campus minister at Oregon State University prior to coming to Covenant church several years ago. He is moving to southern California to be with family.

Seattle Presbytery has hired Heidi Francis as its new communications director. She succeeds Corey Schlosser-Hall, who resigned last summer to become executive presbyter for North Puget Sound Presbytery. Francis has directed the production of congregational communications for more than 10 years. For the past eight and a half years she has been communications specialist at Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church in Bellevue, WA.

Dorothy Metzger, a tireless advocate of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) mission, died recently after a four-year battle with cancer. Metzger, a longtime member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in San Jose, CA, also served for 12 years as the presbytery's Mission Advocate. The family has asked that memorial gifts be given to the PC(USA)'s Mission Connections office. Metzger is survived by her husband, Don; three children - Charles Metzger of Kerrville, TX; Don Metzger of Roseville, CA; and Kathy Newton of Burney, CA; and 6 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held April 14 at Trinity church.

The Rev. Michael Loenshal, 55, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Ithaca, MI, and stated clerk of the Presbytery of Lake Huron, is recovering in Michigan after suffering serious injuries in a March 12 accident in Honduras. Loenshal suffered a closed head injury after being struck by a motorcycle in La Esperanza, Honduras where he was participating in a dental mission project. After initial assessment in La Esperanza, he was transported to the capital city, Tegucigalpa, and then to Miami, FL,, where he was hospitalized for a number of days.
