AJC Welcomes Vatican's New Stance on Yad Vashem Visit
New York - April 15, 2007 - The American Jewish Committee welcomed today the Vatican's decision to end its boycott of the annual Holocaust memorial service at Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust museum and send Archbishop Antonio Franco, its representative to Israel, to the event.
"We praise Archbishop Franco's decision and hope that such differences can continue to be resolved through respectful dialogue," said Rabbi David Rosen, AJC's international director of interreligious affairs.
The Vatican had previously vowed to boycott the memorial this year because of materials at the museum describing Pope Pius XII's actions during World War Two.
