Associated Church Press honors Lutheran communicators

The Associated Church Press (ACP) honored several communicators of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) April 24 at its annual "Best of the Christian Press" for 2006 awards program in Chicago. Founded in 1916, the ACP is the oldest religious press association in North America. An Award of Excellence (first place), Award of Merit (second place) and Honorable Mention (third place) are given in each of 59 categories.

"Cafe" earned a "Best in Class" Award of Excellence -- the ACP's highest award in the Independent Web site or E-zine category. Cafe is the e-zine of Women of the ELCA, the women's organization of the church. Elizabeth McBride and Deborah Bogaert edit Cafe. The ELCA News Service received "Best in Class" Honorable Mention in the News Service category. Lutheran Woman Today, the magazine of the Women of the ELCA, got "Best in Class" Honorable Mention in the Special Interest Magazine category. Lutheran Woman Today received three Honorable Mention awards in the Bible Resource, Devotional/Inspirational: Long Format, and Publication Website categories.

The Lutheran, magazine of the ELCA, received four Awards of Merit in the Biblical Interpretation, Magazine Cover, Photography with Article or Cutline, and Publication Website categories. It earned Honorable Mention awards in both the News Story: Magazine, and Theme Section: Magazine categories.
