Roger Harp Memorial Fund established

Contributions will promote pastoral care for ministers

by Jerry Van Marter

LOUISVILLE- A new fund to promote pastoral care of ministers has been established in memory of the Rev. Roger Harp, a longtime pastor and governing body executive in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Harp died in an automobile accident in February.

The new Extra Commitment Opportunity (ECO) fund was created by the Presbytery Pastoral Care Network [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=pfufw4bab.0.8upfw4bab.9dc9s4bab.2056&ts=S0237&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pastoralcarenetwork.org%2F] (PPCN). Harp was among the early leaders of the network.

The funds will be used by the PC(USA) Office of Vocation to assist in the promotion of pastoral care of ministers.

"The Roger Harp Memorial Fund will fill the biggest need in pastoral care by assisting with counseling expenses for pastors," said Ken Waddell, PPCN's president. "Roger was a pastor's pastor with a big heart. Hopefully this fund will be a valuable treasure in the heart of pastoral care."

Harp had recently become pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Grand Island, NE, when he died. Before that, he served as synod executive/stated clerk/treasurer for the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic. He had also been an executive presbyter for Homestead Presbytery (Nebraska) and Heartland Presbytery (Missouri), as well as a pastor in Lincoln, NE.

The PPCN is a group of ministry professionals and volunteers throughout the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) who are concerned for or engaged in providing pastoral care to ministers.

Contributions to the fund can be made online [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=pfufw4bab.0.7upfw4bab.9dc9s4bab.2056&ts=S0237&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pcusa.org%2Fgive%2Fonline%2Fdefault.jsp]. The ECO project number for the Roger Harp Memorial Fund is EO54901.
