Music of Ken Medema to wow Synod attendees
Ken Medema, performer, composer and recording artist, brings his unique musical talents to the UCC's 26th General Synod in Hartford, Conn. You want to make sure to catch one of his two performances, Monday and Tuesday, June 25 and 26.
Ken uses music as a tool in his ministry. He has been singing for more than 32 years in every venue imaginable, for audiences from 50 to 50,000 in size; from churches to conventions to colleges to corporations. He custom designs each performance for the occasion. Though blind from birth, Medema has demonstrated his extraordinary musical vision to a growing number of loyal fans across the nation and around the world. Using his gift of improvisation, Ken hears with his heart the stories from people, or themes from events or speeches, and sings the stories back to audiences of all ages.
"Ken is a truly gifted musician who is well known in the UCC. His ability to listen and immediately compose songs that capture the essence and spirit of a moment have touched many," says Edith Guffey, the UCC's Associate General Minister. "His presence on Monday and Tuesday will be an inspirational part of our time together."
In 1985, Ken Medema launched Brier Patch Music, a small independent recording, publishing, and performance-booking company named after Brer Rabbit's home in the legendary Uncle Remus stories.
"Brer Rabbit lived in a place not comfortable for anyone else," Medema says, "and we have decided to follow him there."
Brier Patch creates musical expressions with an emphasis on spirituality, expressions that celebrate all aspects of the human experience, and address universal concerns of peace, justice and the environment.
