An independent event of civil society parallel to the Global Forum for Migration and Development was organized by Migrant Rights International - MRI in order to reintroduce the voice and concrete contribution of migrants , non-government organizations and civil society in the global debate. The event took place in Brussels from 10 11 July at ACV-CSC Trade Union Building, hosted by Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants, PICUM with the participation of December 18, ICMC (International Catholic Migration Commission). The meeting convened 216 participants from around the globe who represented churches, Civil Society Organizations, syndicates, Labor Unions and Trade organizations.
Questions and issues raised in this parallel event were the same queries addressed on the roundtable discussions in the Global Forum on Migration & development in the Civil Society Day: Human Capital Development and Labor Mobility; Remittances and Diaspora Resources, Enhancing Policy Coherence an d Promoting Partnerships, cross cutting issues such as Human rights, gender and capacity building. Debates, discussion, recommendations, experiences and information were shared by participants, to support, advocate and propose to ³sending² and ³receiving² countries to uphold the dignity of Migrants, ensure the protection and safeguard the rights and interests of Migrant workers worldwide.
