GREEK ORTHODOX ARCHDIOCESE OF AMERICA COMMEMORATES FORTY YEARS OF HIERARCHICAL MINISTRY OF HIS EMINENCE ARCHBISHOP DEMETRIOS WITH HOLY LITURGY AND RECEPTION
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America cordially invites its faithful members to attend the celebration of the Holy Liturgy on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in honor of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios' 40 Years of Hierarchical Ministry. A reception will follow the celebration of the Holy Liturgy in the Cathedral hall. The event also commemorates the 8th Anniversary of Archbishop Demetrios' enthronement as Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America.
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios was consecrated as titular Bishop of Vresthena on September 17, 1967 in Athens, Greece. He was elected Archbishop of America on August 19, 1999 by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened by His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios was enthroned as the spiritual leader of 1.5 million Greek Orthodox Christians in America at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City on Saturday, September 18, 1999. Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America and Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, is the sixth Archbishop of America since the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese was established in 1922.
