WCC seeks candidates for 2008 internships
Five young people will spend year at Geneva's Ecumenical Center
by Jerry Van Marter Presbyterian News Service
LOUISVILLE - The World Council of Churches (WCC) is accepting applications from young people between the ages of 18 and 30 years to serve as interns in its Geneva offices from February 2008 to January 2009.
Application deadline for the five internships is Sept. 20.
The goals of the program are to bring experience to the WCC and to engage in ecumenical learning.
In Geneva, the interns will be assigned to one of the WCC working areas. Those areas for the 2008 year are:
the Decade to Overcome Violence; youth and ecumenical relationships; visitors' program/media relations; faith, science, technology and ethics; and just and inclusive communities. They will carry out their tasks in cooperation with program staff and under individualized supervision. During their stay in Geneva each intern is expected to plan an ecumenical project to implement in his or her home context when they return in February 2009.
Criteria for selection include commitment to the ideals of the ecumenical movement, energy and creativity.
Applicants must send, along with their application, background information about their church or Christian youth network that will help them in implementing their proposed ecumenical project.
