CHICAGO - The Rev. Christine Vogel has been named McCormick Theological Seminary's dean of students and vice president for student affairs. A 1996 graduate of McCormick, where she earned her Master of Divinity degree, Vogel is serving in a position that has been reconfigured to address student needs for a more intentionally pastoral presence in the department. Vogel's responsibilities include coordinating worship and spiritual life, coordinating seminary hospitality and developing a program of vocational planning, which includes preparation for ordination and placement. Vogel joined the McCormick faculty in the summer of 2005 as the Jean and Frank Mohr Professor of Ministry. Prior to her appointment at the seminary, she served as associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, IL, and in 2002 she was named chaplain at Alma College. Vogel also is a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary, where she received her Doctor of Ministry degree in 2005.

DECATUR, GA - A revised edition of Praying the Psalms: Engaging Scripture and the Life of the Spirit, by Walter Brueggemann, Old Testament professor emeritus at Columbia Theological Seminary, has been released by Cascade Books. The new edition includes a revised text, new notes and new bibliography. Brueggemann said it was necessary to update the book because his own thinking on the Psalms had evolved significantly since its publication in 1982. He said study of the Psalms in general has advanced and that the historical/cultural context of reading them has changed. Praying the Psalms is available through the seminary bookstore, or by calling (404) 687-4550.
