Kerry Rice named manager of meeting services
218th G.A. planning is first up for new OGA senior staffer
by Sharon Youngs OGA Communications Coordinator and Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE - Kerry E. Rice has been selected to join the Office of the General Assembly (OGA) staff as manager of meeting services. The announcement was made Aug. 20 by the Rev. Gradye Parsons, director of operations for OGA.
Rice succeeds Dennis Cobb, whose tenure ended earlier this year.
"Kerry has tremendous gifts, and we are excited about him being called to this position," Parsons said. "We look forward to his contagious enthusiasm and superb organizational skills."
Rice will begin his duties in mid-September by attending a meeting of the Committee on Local Arrangements for the 218th General Assembly (2008) next summer in San Jose, CA.
A Presbyterian elder and a member of Beechmont Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Rice has served the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in a variety of positions. He served for more than fourteen years as a staff member for the General Assembly Council in areas ranging from national volunteers to child advocacy to higher education.
He has filled several roles at previous General Assemblies, including working with theological student advisory delegates and serving as an assembly assistant. His background also includes work with congregations and other agencies and institutions of the PC(USA) and the ecumenical church.
As manager of meeting services, Rice will help coordinate planning for biennial General Assembly meetings and other conferences of the General Assembly. He will also plan and manage the educational and theological components of the assembly and work to develop theological resources and communications related to them.
