Ecunet purchased by Lightworks New Media

Faith & Values subsidiary promises enhanced service for online community

by Jerry Van Marter Presbyterian News Service

LOUISVILLE - A stronger online network for Presbyterians has been promised with the recent purchase of Ecunet by Lightworks New Media, a subsidiary of Faith & Values Media, the nation's largest coalition of faith groups dedicated to enriching spiritual life through the electronic media.

The new partnership will create a stronger network with an expanded set of services for members of the Ecunet online community, Lightworks officials said. Headquartered in Lexington, KY, Lightworks provide hosting, operation, maintenance, billing and customer support for Ecunet, as well as enhance the functionality for the Ecunet community, all with continued involvement of current Ecunet staff.

One of the major components of Ecunet is PresbyNet, the online community of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

"I'm pleased that this new partnership will bring the Ecunet community a stable and full-featured set of online networking tools. Lightworks New Media has a long history of serving communities of faith through its parent organization, Faith & Values Media," said Paul Edison-Swift, Ecunet's president. "I'm looking forward to exciting new features and growth in the coming year."

Brian Lang, business administrator, and Jon Rowell, technical administrator, both of the Ecunet staff, will have expanded roles. "I've long wanted to focus on growing the Ecunet community by reaching out in systematic ways to faith groups who don't have a strong presence on Ecunet.

"By working with Lightworks, I'll now have the time and resources to help build a better Ecunet community," said Lang. "Jon Rowell will have additional programming resources and a much richer development environment to help expand Ecunet's reliability and functionality."

"This is a natural fit for us," said Tom Nickell, Lightworks president and CEO. "Our mission is to enhance and strengthen the online activities of faith groups, especially congregations. Ecunet is the most vital and established online community of faith group leaders. For 20 years, no other faith-based organization has done interactive communications online any better."
