ARCHDIOCESE TO COMMEMORATE ARCHBISHOP DEMETRIOSâ?? 40 YEARS OF HIERARCHICAL MINISTRY: The faithful are cordially invited to attend the celebration of the Holy Liturgy on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in honor of His Eminence Archbishop Demetriosâ?? 40 Years of Hierarchical Ministry. A reception will follow the celebration of the Holy Liturgy in the Cathedral hall. The event also commemorates the 8th Anniversary of Archbishop Demetriosâ?? enthronement as Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America. The Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is located at 319-337 East 74th Street in New York.

TOPICS FOR 2008 ORATORICAL FESTIVAL NOW AVAILABLE: The Department of Religious Education is pleased to release the topics that were approved by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios for the 2008 St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival. By releasing the topics at the beginning of the Church school year, teachers can promote the Festival to their students and work with them to prepare a speech. The Oratorical Festival, now entering its 25th year, provides young people an opportunity to research, to prepare, and to deliver a speech on topics related to their Greek Orthodox faith and heritage. ONLINE SURVEY ON CONTEMPORARY ISSUES: The Department of Communications has been running a series of surveys on issues and topics of the day that affect Orthodox Christians and society at large. The site features a brief survey that affords participants the opportunity to interact with the Archdiocese and offer their responses to various issues. 2008 PARISH ECCLESIASTICAL CALENDAR : The Department of Communications is now taking orders for the 2008 Parish Ecclesiastical Calendar. Each full-color calendar is a 12-month wall calendar with a â??backerâ?? that can be customized with the name, logo, and contact information of the parish and calendar sponsor. The 2008 parish calendar features full color icons and daily Scripture readings, a fasting guide, the names of Saints in Greek and English, and links to related content on the Internet. Parishes were mailed on June 22 all pertinent information along with an Order Form. The order deadline is October 1 with a discount offered for orders and payment received by September 10.

THIRD ANNUAL FAMILY OUTREACH SUNDAY: The Department of Outreach & Evangelism announces the Third Annual Family Outreach Sunday. This program encourages active parishioners to invite inactive family members and Orthodox Christian friends for a special day of fellowship and spiritual renewal. Family Outreach Sunday has been developed in cooperation with the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Center for Family Care at Saint Basil Academy. All parishes are encouraged to choose a Family Outreach Sunday in November that best fits their parish calendar. SPANISH LANGUAGE RESOURCES: The Department of Outreach & Evangelism has compiled a list of Spanish Language Orthodox Christian resources, including the classic volume The Orthodox Church / La Iglesia Ortodoxa by Metropolitan Kallistos (Timothy) Ware, bi-lingual Divine Liturgy books, tri-lingual Paschal Homily of Saint John Chrysostom, the Psalms, several Akathists, and the Life of Saint Mary of Egypt.
