Lambeth Conference Funding Opportunities Announced
With less than one year to go to the Lambeth Conference 2008, the Conference Office is set to invite further contributions for its ongoing bursary programme. The bursaries enable bishops and bishopsâ?? spouses to attend the Lambeth Conference, as well as helping fund those attending who will help ensure the smooth running of both the Lambeth Conference and the Spouses Conference when it meets in Canterbury next July.
The target in 2008 is the equivalent of 600 bursaries to fund the attendance of bishops, bishopâ??s spouses, translators and youth stewards. Every bishop and spouse seeking bursary assistance for the 2008 Conference will be encouraged to make some contribution of their own or through their diocese, however small, to the total cost of their being present in Canterbury.
The number of full bursaries and top-up bursaries available is intended to enable all those who wish to attend the Conference to do so, as has been a success way to meet the needs of the bishops and their spouses at past conferences.
Dioceses, parishes and individuals from all around the Anglican Communion are warmly encouraged to contribute to this fund. With each bursary being costed at £3,500 GBP (or $7,000 US dollars, $7,300 Canadian dollars, 5075 Euros). The target for the fund is £2.1 million GBP or $4.2 million USD. The support can also stem from shared needs of dioceses in a companion relationship.
The fund is already off to a good start, especially with many of dioceses in the Church of England already pledging their contributions. The next step of the fundraising appeal is to extend the challenge to the Anglican Communion as a whole.
