Alert: General Conference petitions deadline is Oct. 26
Oct. 26, 2007
The deadline for submitting petitions for consideration at The United Methodist Church's top legislative assembly is Friday, Oct. 26.
The Rev. Gary W. Graves, petitions secretary for General Conference, said all petitions must be postmarked by that date.
Petitions can be submitted on the General Conference Web site, at www.gc2008.org, or by e-mail to petitions@umpublishing.org.
Petitions also may be sent directly to Graves via the U.S. Postal Service or an overnight carrier-Federal Express, UPS or DHL. If sending by mail or overnight carrier, include one signed copy and a digital version on a 3.5-inch diskette or CD.
Petition packages sent by mail should be addressed to Gary W. Graves, Petitions Secretary, United Methodist General Conference, P.O. Box 188, Beaver Dam, KY 42320-0187. Overnight deliveries should be sent to Graves' street address at 302 N. Lafayette St., Beaver Dam, KY 42320.
Additional details on submitting petitions are available by going to www.gc2008.org, clicking on the "Online petitions submission form" link, then the link tagged "review and understand submission requirements." Specific guidelines are available on that page for preparing the format and content of a petition.
General Conference, which convenes every four years, is the only entity that officially speaks for The United Methodist Church. Nearly 1,000 delegates from around the world will gather April 23-May 2 in Fort Worth, Texas, to act on legislation, approve a budget, celebrate and direct ministries, and share worship.
