INVITATION
to apply for accreditation at the WCC Central Committee
Dear friends and colleagues,
Warm greetings from the World Council of Churches media relations office!
I write to invite you to save the dates for the upcoming meeting of the Central Committeeof the World Council of Churches (WCC), to be held from 13 to20 February 2008at the Ecumenical Centre inGeneva, Switzerland.
The Central Committee meeting will coincide with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of WCC. High level church and civil society figures will participate at a special event to mark the anniversary.
The Central Committee is the WCC's highest governing body in the interval between assemblies, and meets every 12-18 months. It is responsible for executing Assembly resolutions, reviewing WCC programmes and monitoring their implementation, and approving WCC budget plans.
The prospects of a "WCC assembly that would gather all churches and offer expanded space to partner ecumenical organisations" will be among the key points for discussion and decision in the agenda of this meeting.
The moderator of the Central Committee, Rev. Dr Walter Altmann, will open the proceedings on Wednesday, 13 February. This will be followed by the report of the WCC general secretary, Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia on Thursday, 14 February. Other items on the meeting's agenda will be announced in the near future.
As at previous meetings of the WCC Central Committee, we shall again be offering a special programme for journalists through press conferencesand press briefingswith ecumenical personalities, covering current themes of the WCC's work.
An application for accreditation is attached. Please complete and return this form to the Media Relations Office, at the address indicated in the form, no later than Monday, 10th of December. A letter from us confirming your accreditation will include further details.
If you were accredited at the 9th Assembly or at the last Central Committee meeting (August/September 2006), you don't need to complete the form. Simply send us an e-mail or fax letting us know you are coming. Please note that, as usual, journalists have to pay for their own travel, accommodation and any other expenses.
With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
Juan Michel Media Relations Officer
