calvin09: 500 Years Jean Calvin on the Internet
Today, the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches (FSPC) officially launched the Website for the Calvin-Jubilee-Year 2009. The interactive portal features information all around the 500th anniversary of the reformer Jean Calvin - and in four languages.
Jean Calvin was born in 1509; in the year 2009, the Protestant churches worldwide will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Genevan Reformer with numerous events. In April of this year, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches initiated a meeting to start joint planning procedures including the set-up of an Internet portal. Today, the FSPC launched this official webpage as to the Calvin-Jubilee. When clicking on the address www.calvin09.org the portal features information in four languages on Jean Calvin, including an interactive element around the 500-Year-Jubilee and an event calendar that compiles the events that will take place worldwide. It is also possible to download free of charge different material to prepare for the jubilee as well as documentations as to the various events. To celebrate the launching of the Internet portal, calvin09 announces two competitions: The first involves finding an official anthem for the Calvin-Jubilee. Interested musicians are invited to send in their compositions. The second is a competition to find the best and most suitable sermon for the occasion. The most exciting sermon will win - which is at the same time rich in content and shares a surprising perspective as to the relevance of Calvin in our time. The conditions to participate as well as the prize to win can be found on the Internet portal. The website has been put under the patronage of the committee of patrons of calvin09, including 18 representatives from the world of science and church - chaired by the president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, Clifton Kirkpatrick. Co-chairs are Charlotte Kuffer, vice-president of the �glise protestante de Genève, as well as Thomas Wipf, president of the council of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches. On the occasion of the opening of the website, Clifton Kirkpatrick calls the reformed churches all over the world to participate in the calvin09-Internet portal: «We want Calvin to come alive for the people of our time through this website. Therefore, we are eager to receive information that can be shared through this website concerning the various events being planned all around the world to mark Calvin's 500th birthday. We hope and dream that calvin09.org will be as stimulating and relevant for the 21st century as the theology of John Calvin itself!»
calvin09 : le cinq centième anniversaire de Calvin sur Internet
La Fédération des �glises protestantes de Suisse (FEPS) a ouvert aujourd'hui le site Internet officiel de l'année Calvin 2009. Le portail interactif propose, en quatre langues, des informations sur le cinq centième anniversaire du réformateur Jean Calvin. Jean Calvin, le réformateur de Genève, est né en 1509. Son cinq centième anniversaire sera marqué par de nombreuses manifestations dans les �glises réformées du monde entier. Un séminaire dans le cadre de l'Alliance réformée mondiale en avril dernier a donné le coup d'envoi aux préparatifs et la création d'un site Internet y a été décidé. La FEPS a inauguré aujourd'hui le site officiel du jubilé de Calvin, accessible à l'adresse www.calvin09.org. Ce portail est rédigé en quatre langues et offre quantité d'informations sur la personne et l'?uvre de Calvin, des éléments interactifs concernant le jubilé et un calendrier des manifestations prévues dans le monde entier. Il est aussi possible d'y télécharger du matériel pour la préparation de manifestations et de la documentation sur les programmes. Afin de marquer l'ouverture du site, calvin09 lance deux concours : un concours musical pour la composition de l'hymne officiel du jubilé. Les musiciennes et musiciens intéressés sont invités à envoyer une ?uvre de leur composition. Et un concours de prédications qui recherche des prédications capables d'ouvrir des perspectives inattendues sur l'importance de Calvin pour notre époque. Le site donne toutes les informations utiles sur les conditions de participation et le prix offert aux lauréats. Le site est patronné par un comité ecclésiastique et scientifique de dix-huit personnes venant de diverses régions du monde. � la tête de ce comité se trouve Clifton Kirkpatrick, président de l'Alliance réformée mondiale, assisté de deux co-présidents, Charlotte Kuffer, vice-présidente de l'�glise protestante de Genève, et Thomas Wipf, président du Conseil de la Fédération des �glises protestantes de Suisse. Pour cette ouverture, Clifton Kirkpatrick invite les �glises réformées du monde entier à s'associer au portail Internet calvin09 : « Ce site doit permettre de rendre Calvin vivant pour les gens d'aujourd'hui. Aussi attendons-nous avec impatience toutes les informations qui présenterons toutes les manifestations qui sont prévues dans le monde entier. Nous souhaitons que les effets de calvin09.org et des célébrations du jubilé soient comparables à l'importance toujours actuelle de la théologie de Calvin. »

Der Schweizerische Evangelische Kirchenbund (SEK) hat heute die offizielle Internetseite zum Calvin-Jahr 2009 freigeschaltet. Das interaktive Portal bietet in vier Sprachen Information rund um den 500. Geburtstag des Reformators Jean Calvin. 1509 wurde Jean Calvin geboren, 2009 wird der 500. Geburtstag des Genfer Reformators von den protestantischen Kirchen weltweit mit zahlreichen Veranstaltungen begangen. Eine Tagung im Rahmen des Reformierten Weltbundes im April dieses Jahres war der Start zur gemeinsamen Planungen. Dazu gehört die Einrichtung eines Internetportals. Der SEK hat diese offizielle Internetseite zum Calvin-Jubiläum heute freigeschaltet. Unter www.calvin09.org bietet das viersprachige Portal Informationen über Jean Calvin, interaktive Elemente rund um das 500-Jahr-Jubiläum und einen zentralen Veranstaltungskalender der weltweiten Ereignisse. Zusätzlich sind Vorbereitungsmaterialien sowie Veranstaltungsdokumentationen zur freien Nutzung abrufbar. Zur Eröffnung des Portals schreibt calvin09 zwei Wettbewerbe aus: Im ersten wird eine offizielle Hymne zum Calvin-Jubiläum gesucht. Interessierte Musikerinnen und Musiker sind zur Einsendung einer Eigenkomposition eingeladen. Der zweite ist ein Predigtwettbewerb. Gesucht werden Predigten, welche überraschende Perspektiven zur Bedeutung Calvins in heutiger Zeit zu eröffnen vermögen. Die Teilnahmebedingungen sowie der ausgelobte Preis für den Siegerbeitrag sind auf dem Internetportal zu finden. Die Internetseite steht unter der Schirmherrschaft des Patronatskomitees von calvin09, das achtzehn Vetreterinnen und Vertreter aus Wissenschaft und Kirche aus aller Welt umfasst und vom Präsidenten des Reformierten Weltbundes, Clifton Kirkpatrick, geleitet wird. Co-Präsidenten sind Charlotte Kuffer, Vizepräsidentin der �glise protestante de Genève, sowie Thomas Wipf, Ratspräsident des Schweizerischen Evangelischen Kirchenbundes.
