AUSTIN, TX - Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary broke ground Nov. 12 for a new apartment building named after the Rev. John F. Anderson and his wife, Nancy. The groundbreaking came following the completion of an $8.8 million fundraising campaign to build Anderson House. During more than 60 years as a Presbyterian pastor, John Anderson touched the lives of many in Dallas, Houston, Tyler and throughout the Synod of the Sun. Anderson also served as moderator of the 122nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church U.S. in 1982, and helped facilitate the reunion of the northern and southern streams of the denomination in 1983. He is now pastor emeritus of First Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Anderson House will be built in the northwest quadrant of the campus.

CHICAGO - McCormick Theological Seminary is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Ministry studies program in the spring of 2008. The Pastoral & Spiritual Care Track will begin on March 31-April 4 with the core course Ministry With Groups, taught by Professor Deborah Kapp. The program is offered in partnership with Midwest Adventist Health Systems and the first class will meet at LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange, IL. Applications for admission to the Doctor of Ministry Program for this track are due no later than Feb. 1. A second core course in pastoral care, taught by Professor Homer Ashby, will be offered May 12-16. The Parish Revitalization and Building Beloved Community Tracks will begin in early June. All Doctor of Ministry students at McCormick begin their course of study with core courses. The core courses, Ministry with Groups, taught by Professor Deborah Kapp; and Cities of God, taught by Associate Professor Robert Cathey; will be offered June 2-13. DECATUR, GA - Columbia Theological Seminary has released the fourth issue of its online journal, @ this point: theological investigations in church and culture. This issue, titled "Creation on the Cross," focuses on environmental justice in the Bible and our Christian life together. Developed with church members in mind and published twice a year, @ this point is free and available only online. All the content can be downloaded and reproduced without charge. Sign up for the e-mail list to receive new issues and announcements. Each issue of @ this point focuses on a particular topic from the perspective of a variety of theological disciplines and includes a lead article, response articles and teaching resources to guide further discussion.

LOUISVILLE - Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary celebrated the 9th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance on Nov. 20 with a day of campus events, culminating in an ecumenical candlelight memorial service in Caldwell Chapel. The Transgender Day of Remembrance is a national memorial project that honors human beings slain during the past year because of their unconventional gender. The celebration was one of many events around the country to focus attention on threats many transgender people live with daily. The seminary observance was planned jointly by the Women's Center at LPTS and local organizations representing the transgendered community in Louisville. Events included a morning prayer vigil and a lunch-hour presentation on "Transgender 101: Basic Terms and Concepts" by local activist Beth Harrison-Prado.

PRINCETON, NJ - Brian Stanley, Henry Martyn Lecturer in Mission Studies at the Cambridge Theological Federation, will give Princeton Theological Seminary's annual Students' Lectureship on Missions on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4. Stanley will lecture on the theme of "The Transfiguration of Christianity: Insights for Christian Mission Today from the World Missionary Conference, Edinburgh 1910." Stanley is director of the Henry Martyn Centre for the Study of Mission and World Christianity at Westminster College in Cambridge, England. He has experience teaching in the areas of mission studies, world Christianity and modern church history, and was director of the North Atlantic Missiology Project and its successor, the Currents in World Christianity Project, from 1996 to 2001. The author or editor of six books, Stanley is currently completing a major study of the World Missionary Conference, Edinburgh 1910, to be published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company in 2008. All lectures will be held in the main lounge of the Mackay Campus Center and are open to the public free of charge. For more information, contact (609) 497-7760.

SAN ANSELMO, CA - The Gerald Strauss Prize committee for German history has awarded Christopher Ocker, professor of church history at San Francisco Theological Seminary, honorable mention for his book, Church Robbers and Reformers in Germany, 1525-1547. The Strauss prize recognizes the best book in the field of Reformation Germany. Megan Armstrong, executive director of the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference, noted the committee was very impressed with Ocker's book and wished to award it special recognition. Ocker was presented the award at the SCSC annual meeting Oct. 26-29 in Minneapolis.
