Indianapolis diocese notes enthusiasm for hosting 2012 General Convention

By Mary Frances Schjonberg

[Episcopal News Service] The opening gavel for the 77th General Convention of the Episcopal Church may be more than four years and an intervening Convention away, but the hosting diocese is enthusiastic about the prospect.

The Executive Council agreed February 14 to hold the 77th Convention, set for July 4-13, 2012, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the seat of the Diocese of Indianapolis.

Diocese of Indianapolis Canon to the Ordinary Peder Berdahl told ENS that the diocese is excited by and appreciative of the opportunity to host the triennial gathering of the governing body of the Episcopal Church. "Folks will be coming out of the woodwork" to help, he predicted.

Vision before fund raising

Vermont church expands its mission along with its buildings

By Susan Tobias

[Episcopal Life] Late last year, I read that Americans spend $20 billion a year on ice cream while the United Nations figures it would take $14 billion and 10 years to provide clean water and basic sanitation and health care for the whole world.

These statistics made me think immediately of life in the small church, where it's so easy to see what we want to do and to think we know just why we can't possibly do it.

The gap between desire and resources as we know them defeats imagination, energy and -- eventually -- hope.
