ARCHDIOCESAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO PRESENT PANEL ON
GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE AT CLERGY-LAITY CONGRESS

New York, NY ? The Archdiocesan Advisory Committee on Science and Technology (AACST) will coordinate a workshop and panel discussion at the upcoming Clergy-Laity Congress in Washington, DC, on the issue of global climate change. The session, entitled â??Ethical Issues in Global Climate Change,â?? will be held on Tuesday morning of the Congress from 9 am to 1 pm in the Taylor room of the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

The panel, which will include a distinguished group of scientist, advisors, and theologians, will examine the ethical issues related to the consequences of climate change in light of the evangelical command that human beings be
â??stewardsâ?? of nature. The issues of intergenerational responsibility, concern for the poor, a wasteful lifestyle, the future of the planet, and the ultimate survival of humankind are critical concerns in the midst of global changes in agriculture, water supplies, sea levels, forest coverage, survival of plant and animal species, and human health. In addition to presentations and discussions on these issues, the session will include a video presentation featuring Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and his pastoral concern and international initiatives for the environment.

Presenters and panelist for the session include: His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco; Dr. Achilles G. Adamantiades, Executive Secretary of the AACST; Mrs. Lila Prounis, NGO Representative of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese to the United Nations; Ms. Margarita Tsirigotis-Oge, Director of Transportation and Air Quality at the US Environmental Protection Agency; Dr. Georgios Kostakos, Senior Policy Advisor of the United Nations System Chief Executive Board (CEB) of Coordinators; Dr. George Nassos, Associate Professor of the Stuart School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology; and Rev. Dr. John Chryssavgis, Ecumenical Office of the Archdiocese.

Information on the 39th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress is available online at www.clergylaity.org. For more information on the AACST visit their web site at www.goarch.org/en/archdiocese/departments/advisoryscience/.
