General Secretary Andrew Chang of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) attended the Church for World Mission (CWM) General Secretaries' Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa, on October 13~17, 2008. At the conference, Chang shared with attendees that the PCT ran its own TV channel (New Eyes Television), newspaper (Taiwan Church News), and website. Through these mediums, ministry news could be promptly communicated to member churches. The 31 delegates in attendance expressed awe and admiration upon hearing Chang's report. CWM's mass media secretary also expressed interest in coming to Taiwan to see these ministries first hand.
CWM General Secretaries' Conference is held once every 2 years and boasts 31 members globally, each member representing one country. The PCT was one of CWM's founding members. During this year's conference, attendees shared their country's experience in light of the global financial crisis, energy crisis, and resource shortage crisis. They also discussed the political instability in South Africa and other issues. Their goal was that through this gathering, they might develop a partnership and a plan for missions.
On his return flight to Taiwan, General Secretary Chang made a brief stopover in Hong Kong where he attended celebrations commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China (HKCCCC). During the celebration, he met Chinese delegates representing various organizations, including China Christian Council and National Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement. Many of these delegates had heard of the general secretary before and were well aware of developments in Taiwanese churches.
