The MECC/Justice, Peace and Human Rights Program organized a two fold
training workshop in Ayia Napa Conference Centre in Cyprus, from 29 - 3
November 2008 under the title "Monitoring Human Rights: Between Spiritual
and Secular'. The workshop targeted 15 participants from Lebanon and
Palestine. The workshop achieved its goals by identifying and collecting
studies from the field about human rights violations. This workshop was
paralleled with a series of working groups on the issue of monitoring and
techniques related to it in preparing a human rights file of cases. A
resource booklet on human rights under the title "Am I the guard of my
brother², which the JPHR program partially sponsored, was distributed to
each participant as a guide book for the case studies. Participants used th e
booklet to analyze and deepen their knowledge. Participants discussed the
final design of the website on ³Human Rights², an activity of this Program
that is in process, and which will be considered as a main tool for the
Monitor on human rights. The MECC General Secretary attended the first day
and presented a paper on the role of JPHR program in the Council to enhance
human rights promotion.
