CWS urges Mideast peace as Obama priority
New York City, Dec. 2, 2008--Church World Service Executive Director
John L. McCullough has joined with other prominent Christian leaders in
signing a letter urging President-elect Barack Obama to provide the
leadership necessary to achieve Middle East peace.
The letter, which asks the newly-elected president to â??make
achievement of Israeli-Palestinian peace an immediate priority during
your first year in office,â?? is being sent by Churches for Middle East
Peace, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy coalition of which CWS is a
member.
Signed by Christian leaders and congregants from across the nation, it
recalls the Biblical mandate â??to be peacemakersâ?? and also calls on
Christians and people of good will to support U.S. diplomatic efforts
and to join in prayer for the peace of Jerusalem.
The signed letter will be delivered to President
Obama during the time of inauguration.
Those who wish to read and/or add their names to the letter can do so
at http://www.cmep.org/letter.
