Kaohsiung City Government and Churches Go Caroling in MRT Stations

Kaohsiung city government and local churches co-hosted a series of events during Christmas season this year called Kaohsiung Christmas Carnival. On Christmas Eve, event organizers gathered at Central Park station of Kaohsiung’s Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT) to host “Love, Caroling in Kaohsiung MRT”, which included many church members from Presbyterian Church of Taiwan (PCT) Kaohsiung presbytery and Shou-Shan presbytery. The event included choir performances, viewing of a personal testimony given by Wei Te-sheng, director of award-winning Taiwanese movie Cape No.7, and prayers of blessing.
Kaohsiung presbytery’s Yan-Cheng Church members convened at church at 6:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and formed three groups to go Christmas caroling at nearby stores. Each group took a different route before meeting again at Yan Chengpu MRT station for a joint caroling session. After singing some songs, church members took the MRT to Central Park Station to join other churches participating in Kaohsiung Christmas Carnival.
Feng Shan Presbyterian Church members gathered at church at 6:30 p.m. for a time of singing and prayer before heading out to the streets for caroling at 7:00 p.m. They also headed to Central Park Station afterward. Other churches had similar church-based events as well before heading to Central Park Station. On this occasion, some churches paid the MRT transportation costs for their members to encourage mass participation.
Besides caroling, Kaohsiung Christmas Carnival will also feature “It’s love, Band Fun” on December 27 at Hanshin Arena and “Christmas Chorale” on December 28 at National Sun-Yat Sen University’s auditorium.
