2009 Archdiocesan Yearbook Now Available Online

NEW YORK ? The 2009 Yearbook of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is now available on line at http://www.goarch.org/archdiocese/yearbook/2009.pdf 2009 Yearbooks will be available by mail beginning mid-January 2009. Every parish will receive two complimentary copies.

In his prologue to the Yearbook Archbishop Demetrios of America focuses on a special charge for all Greek Orthodox faithful, a charge that emanates from the theme of the last Clergy-Laity Congress.

He states, The theme Gather My People to My Home calls us to look with sincerity inside ourselves and at the same time to turn our heightened attention outwards to the others with sensitivity to their needs. Our theme asks us to consider ways in which we may enhance our ministries at both national and parish levels in order to embrace more effectively those who are among the so-called "unchurched," those who may have never walked along any religious path, or who may have lost their way. It asks us to beseech God for the wisdom to understand what caused some of our own faithful to loosen or to lose their connection with the Church, so that we may be in a better position to approach them lovingly and shelter them again under the roof and the warmth of their spiritual home, our Church. Finally, our theme challenges us to intensify our outreach and pastoral concern for others, especially some of our young people, who have not been able to hear or appreciate the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and who live in the midst of a society that offers a myriad of other, misleading or antagonistic messages.

The 2009 Yearbook is designed as an easy-to-read, accurate reference handbook of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, the 264-page new edition includes updated directories of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Archdiocesan departments and institutions, parishes, priests, religious and secular media resources plus additional information.
