The Synod planning team has announced the appearance of Christian recording artists Jason & deMarco in Grand Rapids during River City Saturday events June 27.

Jason & deMarco became familiar names to music fans around the world with the international release of their album "Till the End of Time." Their first single, "Trying to Get to You," climbed the Billboard Charts and their second single, "This is Love" won Music Video of the Year 2006 on MTV's LOGO.

Before launching their duo act, deMarco was the lead in the international touring company of the musical "California Dream Men" and Jason was a highly successful Christian artist first as a member of mainline traditional Gospel groups, and then as a solo artist touring mostly through Metropolitan Community Churches.

The duo released their first album together, "The Spirit of Christmas," in 2002 followed by 2003's "Songs for the Spirit." In 2004, Jason and deMarco appeared on the cover of The Advocate magazine with their new album "Spirit Pop." "The Advocate cover introduced us to people outside of the community of faith. It was very exciting and I definitely think it introduced us to many new people" says Jason.

Their autobiographical and controversial documentary-film, "We're All Angels," from director Robert Nunez, currently airs on the Showtime network where fans are invited to take a behind-the-scenes look at the public and private lives of these rising pop stars. The film chronicles the lives of the two singers as they perform all over the country in dance clubs, at pride events and in churches.

Jason & deMarco have performed at numerous high profile events including the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Awards in Los Angeles, the Matthew Shepard Foundation's annual gala in Denver, and the 2006 Human Rights Campaign Gala at the Waldorf Astoria New York.

They have also been a part of the Human Rights Campaign star-studded benefit two-pack CD album celebrating marriage equality, Love Rocks, alongside artists such as Christina Aguilera, Pink, and The Dixie Chicks.

Jason & deMarco join the already announced line-up of Synod speakers including Eugene H. Robinson, Ray Suarez, the Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor and The Rev. Jim Wallis.
