YWCA invites entrepreneurs to focus on the environment

World-renowned author and Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas L. Friedman sparked discussion all across Taiwan with his recent book entitled “Hot, Flat, and Crowded”. During the recent YWCA 60th anniversary celebration in Taipei, many entrepreneurs and members from the media gathered to discuss “Green Wisdom”. The seminar focused on how the current financial crisis could be an opportunity to promote environmentalism.
Leaders from YWCA in Taipei recounted the early days of the organization when it set up milk booths to help the poorest in society because it felt compelled to serve those in need. Taiwanese society has evolved a great deal since then, and one of the primary social concerns now is the environment and global warming. This concern requires government agencies and business organizations to cooperate with each other, which is why the YWCA is now establishing a ministry called Corporate Social Responsibility.
The organization held a ceremony to mark its anniversary and the beginning of Corporate Social Responsibility on February 20th and guest speakers at the event included Taiwanese Vice-President Vincent Siew.

Taiwan Successful Family Association organized a contest beginning on February 20th through February 28th and invited all ladies above the age of 38 who considered themselves to be genuine, beautiful, joyful, and of good character to register in the contest by submitting a form and a short essay of no more than a thousand Chinese characters describing their life story. The organization will declare the top ten winners of the contest on March 2nd.
Successful politicians and business entrepreneurs helped the association publicize the contest. During a press conference, Taiwanese legislator Trong R. Chai praised his wife for her undying support throughout his career when he was often busy and unable to spend a lot of time with her. A.S.O shoe store CEO Luo Shui-mu, who now owns a successful women’s shoe store chain in Taiwan, also shared about his successful of marriage to his wife of 56 years.
The event received full support from the Ministry of Interior and a spokesperson for the ministry wished all married couples a happy marriage and urged them to focus on building strong family relationships.
Besides this event, Taiwan Successful Family Association is also planning another event geared at encouraging couples to spend more family time as key to building a happy and successful family.
