Taiwan and Thailand seek medical and mission partnership

>Reported by Lin Yi-ying

In search of a partnership in the realm of medical missions and guided by Taiwan’s missionary to Thailand, Rev. Angel Wang,

General Secretary Rev. Sayam Muangsak and Associate Secretary Elder Suthin Kumata from Church of Christ in Thailand visited

Mackay Memorial Hospital Superintendent Tsai Cheng-Ho on April 16th.

The two representatives from Thailand expressed a desire to see more partnership in the realm of medical training and medical

short-term missions with Mackay Memorial. In response, Tsai promised to provide all medical equipment and medical training

necessary to advance medical missions in Thailand.

According to Muangsak, there are very few Christian doctors in Thailand’s Christian hospitals. For every ten doctors that are hired,

only one doctor is a Christian. Hence, he hopes Mackay Hospital can help Thailand’s Christian hospitals by offering short-term and

long-term training to their physicians since Mackay has a lot of experience training Christian physicians.

Christian hospitals in Thailand also hope to partner with Mackay Hospital for medical missions and have asked for opportunities to

exchange ideas and lessons learned during future medical forums organized by Christian hospitals in either Thailand or Taiwan.

According to Tsai, Mackay Hospital will be more than glad to have exchanges with churches in Thailand because it has organized

short-term missions to northern Thailand for quite some time. Tsai himself has participated in these missions many times.

In recent years, Mackay hospital has been focusing on treating diseases that afflict elderly people. It is also well-known for cutting

edge technology and research in the field of long-distance medical treatment and has invested a lot of resources in this specialty in

recent years. Tsai hopes that Mackay hospital and Christian hospitals in Thailand can exchange ideas on these issues so that

hospitals in both Taiwan and Thailand can support one another in furthering their ministries.
