PCT unveils forum and prayer meetings set in July

The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) General Assembly Executive Committee decided recently to organize a conference on the future of Taiwan and hold

national prayer meetings in northern, central, southern, and eastern Taiwan.

Because U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao in August of this year and both leaders will discuss issues concerning

Taiwan, PCT General Secretary Andrew Chang proposed that the PCT should organize such a conference. “The Future of Taiwan as a Country” would not only

affirm U.S. contributions in the realm of human rights, freedom, justice, and democracy, but also support U.S. engagement with China to safeguard its own national

interests. More importantly, the conference would remind U.S. officials to avoid compromising Taiwan’s national rights, security and dignity during talks with China

and treasure the long-standing relationship between Taiwan and the U.S.

Chang’s proposal garnered unanimous support from executive committee members and details of the conference will be hammered out by the Church and Society

>Committee.

The Executive Committee also agreed to hold “Lift Up My Eyes to the Hills National Prayer Meeting” after “The Future of Taiwan” conference. The prayer

meetings will be held in four different locations across Taiwan and will be organized by the General Assembly Ministers Committee.
