Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) program secretaries gathered at

Presbyterian Bible College in Hsinchu from June 16~18 to brainstorm new

directions for their respective ministries. Led by General Secretary Andrew Chang,

secretaries participated in this year’s first seminar for program secretaries.

Besides confirming a general theme for the upcoming two years, secretaries also

established mission goals and paved the way for their next meeting in August

where they will flesh out specific strategies.

The seminar began with the reading of John 11:17-44 and secretaries were

encouraged to start anew and view their ministries from God’s perspective. To help

these leaders see, hear, and understand problems and needs facing Taiwanese

churches and society, as well as set realistic mission goals, leaders invited Rev. Lin

Wei-lian from Kaohsiung Presbytery and General Editor Fang Lan-ting from Taiwan

Church Press to present qualitative and quantitative analyses on Taiwanese society

and churches. Lin reminded attendees to make good use of helpful statistics

>provided by the Ministry of Interior.

After much discussion in small groups, secretaries agreed that PCT still exerted a

great deal of influence in Taiwanese society and it should use this influence to

encourage self-rule and local employment in aboriginal reserves. Churches should

also encourage interaction and resource sharing among aboriginal churches and

>city churches.

The second and third day of the seminar focused on topics such as evangelism and

culture, service with a loving heart, taking care of God’s creation, parenting, and

>social reforms.
