Honolulu church marks 50th anniversary of Filipino-American ministry

>By Matthew Davies

[Episcopal News Service] The 50th anniversary of the birth of
Filipino-American ministry in the Episcopal Church was marked August
22-23 with a weekend of celebrations in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

About 600 people turned out for events at the Hilton Hawaiian Village
Resort and services at St. Paul's Church, where the first
Filipino-American Eucharist was held in August 1959, coinciding with
Hawai'i achieving its U.S. statehood.

Women's ordination: not all consequences were positive

>By Alda Marsh Morgan

[Episcopal News Service] It is interesting to me, as a theologically
educated lay woman and a former lay woman church worker, that the
observations of the 35th anniversary of women's ordination (see
Episcopal Life Online story here
http://www.episcopalchurch.org/81840_112947_ENG_HTM.htm) are positive.
There was nothing from the critics of the action and, while there was
acknowledgement that much remained to be done, nothing to suggest that
not all the consequences of 1974 and 1976 were positive.
