Church of England says no to full communion with breakaway entity

[Episcopal News Service] The Church of England has said it recognizes
and affirms the desire of the Anglican Church in North America to
remain in the Anglican family, but it is not yet ready to be in full
communion with the breakaway entity.

Amended legislation passed Feb. 10 by General Synod, the Church of
England's main governing body, said that ACNA's desire required
further exploration by the "relevant authorities" in the Anglican
Communion

Presiding bishop says Episcopalians must commit to Haiti's future

[Episcopal News Service] The wider Episcopal Church can most
effectively help the earthquake-ravaged Diocese of Haiti by praying,
contributing to emergency relief efforts and planning how it will help
the diocese achieve the rebuilding priorities that it will eventually
set.

That is the assessment Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori came
away with after visiting Port-au-Prince Feb. 8 to survey the damage
wrought by Jan. 12 magnitude 7.0 earthquake.

Bishop Jean Zaché Duracin and other surviving members of the diocese
need help now and they need time to discern a plan for the future, the
presiding bishop told ENS during a Feb. 10 interview.

SAN JOAQUIN: Diocese seeks return of property held by breakaway  congregation

[Episcopal News Service] The Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin went
back to court Feb. 8 in an attempt to regain parish property held by a
breakaway congregation, according to a diocesan press release.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA: A Holy Land visit, the wall and 'urgent' need for
advocacy for negotiated Israeli-Palestinian peace

[Episcopal News Service] It wasn't Bethlehem's separation wall, but a
powerful graffiti message on it instead that Bishop Barry Beisner of
the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California hopes to convey from his
recent Holy Land trip.

"Someone had spray-painted 'Jesus will tear down this wall,'" he said.

'People are on edge' about getting through winter

[Episcopal News Service] Bishop John Tarrant of the Diocese of South
Dakota said Feb. 10 that a grant from Episcopal Relief and Development
will be used "to help families, to buy food, to purchase propane gas
for heating, and to repair pipes that were frozen and burst" during
blizzards a few weeks ago.

(RCL) Exodus 34:29-35; Psalm 99; 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2; Luke 9:28-36,  (37-43a)

[Sermons That Work] At first glance, one might be tempted to think:
"What do the readings from Exodus, Psalm 99, Second Corinthians and
Luke - the readings for this Transfiguration Sunday - have to do with
World Mission Sunday?"

The linked readings focusing on Moses' intimate relationship with God
and his shining face in Exodus and Second Corinthians, the psalmist's
praise to God for God's mighty acts in history, and Luke's story of
the Transfiguration seem to have little bearing on the celebration of
World Mission Sunday, let alone this year's theme "World Mission and
the Environment." Yet, as with most of the most important things in
our lives, we must delve below the surface to apprehend the depth of
the meaning.
