New approaches to photographic coverage and presentation is the focus
of a workshop to be led by Kenneth Irby, The Poynter Institute's
Visual Journalism Group Leader, at the Religion Communication
Congress, April 7-10, 2010.

Current media convergence efforts, ethical tough calls, editing
strategies, and ideas for developing ethical guidelines for
photographic multi-media presentation are some of the topics Irby will
cover in his workshop on "Communications Ethics Today." Participants
will explore the power of photo-driven multimedia storytelling to
convey information quickly, and sharpen their ability to handle
graphic and traumatic news coverage decisions.

Irby will also join Barbara Bradley Hagerty and Kevin Eckstrom in a
panel discussion moderated by Martin Marty on how social change is
changing media coverage of religion.

Kenneth Irby is an integral figure in visual journalism education,
known for his insightful knowledge of photographic storytelling,
innovative management ideas, and steadfast ethical thinking. He
founded Poynter's photojournalism program in 1995. Irby teaches in
seminars and consults in areas of photojournalism, leadership, ethics,
and diversity in the U.S. and internationally. He has won numerous
awards and contributed as a photo editor to three Pulitzer
Prize-winning projects while at Newsday.

The Religion Communication Congress (RCCongress 2010) is an
international, interfaith gathering of religion communicators held
every ten years offering cutting edge skills-building workshops,
challenging plenary speakers, and networking opportunities with
