Presbytery helps single Christians find a mate

On February 19, young adults from various churches across Taiwan who are still single
gathered at a restaurant in Tainan city to take part in a group blind date sponsored by Tainan
Presbytery’s Church and Society Committee. This was the fourth time the committee had
>organized such an event.
Though a cold current resulted in frigid temperatures across Taiwan on that day, as many as
66 Christians attended this event. Activities included fun self-introductions and bingo games
especially designed to help participants get to know one another. This meeting eventually
>resulted in 14 successful matches.
According to the Elder Chen Ya-hui who emceed the event, those who didn’t find a successful
match this time shouldn’t despair because the committee still has information files of more
than 200 single adults seeking a mate. She added that the committee would continue hosting
similar events in the near future and urged singles to participate.
Young adults who participated on that day ranged from 25 to 40 years of age and some came
from as far as Taipei. Though few people registered for the event when it was first announced,
numbers crept quickly toward the end of the registration deadline and even exceeded
>expectations.
Through various games and activities during this event, everyone’s personality became
apparent as some joked around and others spoke nervously about themselves. Some
participants even brought along their relatives to root for them.
According to Chen, Tainan Presbytery will hold group blind dates every two months in the near
future and will likely add a group blind date exclusively for those who are widowed or divorced
and are looking for another shot at marriage. The next time this event will be held will likely be
April 17th. Those who are interested in registering for it should contact Chen at 0932-802004.
