Pastors cycle from Changhua to Tainan to attend PCT General Assembly

Every year’s General Assembly Meeting attracts pastors from all over Taiwan and
sometimes Aborigine pastors will even wear Aborigine clothing reflecting their
>heritage when they attend meetings.
But that is not the only thing that caught people’s eyes during this year’s
General
Assembly. Two PCT pastors had sports wear and sports gear on when they first
arrived to the venue in Tainan because they had biked all the way from Changhua
(Central Taiwan) to Tainan (Southern Taiwan) to attend this year’s conference.
According to reports, Rev. Tseng Chao-ruei from Seven Stars Presbytery and
Rev. Huang Hsin-han from Changhua Presbytery got up very early on April 5 and
set out from Changhua at 6:30 a.m. Riding along Highway 19, both arrived to
Chang Jung Senior Girls’ High School, in Tainan, around 4:00 p.m. that same
day.
According to Rev. Tseng, he loved biking since he was in senior high school and
he had cycled across Taiwan with Rev. Huang soon after they both graduated
from seminary. However, he gave up cycling when he began his ministry ten years
ago and it wasn’t until two years ago that he picked up his bike once again.
Rev. Tseng originally planned to cycle straight from Taipei to Tainan without
stopping, but later decided to make a stopover in Changhua after biking 9 hours
>so he wouldn’t be too tired.
He remarked that cycling across the country is not difficult once people get a
little
bit of training, and added that mapping the right route actually took more
time and
effort. “Riding is an excellent way to know your country better and see things
that
aren’t written in school textbooks,” he said.
