PCT spruces up members’ visitation skills and one-on-one evangelism

Have you visited a friend to share the gospel recently? House visitations are
no longer solely a

pastor’s responsibility, but rather, one of the most conventional means for
Christians to share

>the gospel and reach out to people.

For Christians who are less confident in their ability to share the gospel,
PCT General

Assembly is organizing a series of events as part of efforts to get its
members involved in

house visitations and evangelism. These events are geared towards helping them
participate

in PCT’s “One-on-One Evangelism”, which is part of PCT’s “New Doubling
Movement”.

Co-hosted by PCT General Assembly’s Evangelism Committee and Women’s Ministry

Committee, these events are basically training seminars held at various
locations throughout

Taiwan. A seminar was recently held on April 24th in Taichung at Liu-Yuan
Presbyterian

Church and it was the third seminar of the series.

During the seminar, a seasoned visitations pastor and a hospital chaplain
addressed topics

such as “visitation and evangelism”, “how to show empathy”, “visitation
techniques”, and “inter-

personal relationships”. It concluded with a group activity where participants
shared what

>they’d learned through a skit.

According to Evangelism Committee Program Secretary Rev. Tsai Nan-hsin, home
visitations

are foundational to all church ministries because no matter what churches do
to attract people

into its pews, follow-ups are always necessary after a person comes to church
for the first

time. These follow-ups ultimately involve paying some kind of personal visit.

He underscored that house visitations are no longer solely a minister’s
responsibility, but

rather, a ministry requiring the participation of every Christian. Learning a
few house visitation

skills can help Christians know how to lead their friends to Christ.

Women’s Ministry Committee Program Secretary Rev. Lee Hsing-ling commented
that house

visitation training seminars were originally sponsored by PCT Women’s Ministry
Committee

because house visits were generally carried out by women in many churches. PCT

Evangelism Committee came onboard this project later to encourage both men and
women to

>participate.

So far, PCT has organized two seminars on house visitations. It hopes future
seminars will

draw a wider array of participants besides women and clergy because these
seminars exist

to help and train anyone interested in evangelism and house visitations.

According to Lee, these new seminars place equal emphasis on theory and
practice and what

sets them apart is a group activity at the end. For this activity,
participants are divided into two

groups and instructed to present what they’ve learned during the seminar
through a skit.

This seminar will next be held in the cities of Kaohsiung, Tainan, Chiayi,
Taitung, and Hualien.
