Taiwanese pray for their motherland on Mother’s Day

Taiwan United Nations Alliance (TAUNA) held a candlelight prayer vigil on the
night of May 9
at Chung-Shan Presbyterian Church in Taipei. The purpose of the vigil was to
pray for Taiwan
during such disquieting times. Leaders from PCT Seven Stars, Taipei, and East
Amis
>presbyteries also took part in this event.
According to TAUNA, the word “pain” and “love” share the same sound in
Taiwanese. It
organized this prayer vigil with churches on Mother’s Day to remember with
gratitude every
mother’s sacrifice, love, and care for her children.
However, Taiwan is also a mother to Taiwanese people and God has used this
country to
nourish and nurture them. Sadly, Taiwanese people’s motherland has been under
a lot of
>stress in the past year or so.
Due to an incompetent government with sights set exclusively on China, Taiwan’s
unemployment rate has increased and the gap between rich and poor has widened
significantly. Furthermore, the KMT still claims a large sum of the national
treasury’s money as
its own and the judiciary is corrupt and unrighteous, said TAUNA leaders.
They also expressed concern about ECFA and how it was being used by China and
KMT as
a tool to lure Taiwanese people into China’s fold beginning with an economic
takeover.
It is precisely these concerns that prompted TAUNA and several PCT
presbyteries to use this
year’s Mother’s Day as an occasion to pray to God for the national sovereignty
and territorial
integrity of Taiwan. Their prayer is that God would protect Taiwan from being
betrayed into
>China’s hands.
