Bonnie Anderson writes of 'circle of ministries' in June 6 bulletin insert

[Episcopal News Service] Bonnie Anderson, president of the House of
Deputies, describes the Episcopal Church's "circle of ministries" in
Episcopal Life Weekly bulletin inserts for June 6. Drawing from the
text of Paul's first letter to the Corinthians ("Now there are
varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of
services, but the same Lord ..."), Anderson notes, "As we are reminded
by St. Paul, in a practice of equal exchange and honor, we draw upon
the unique charism of each individual, whether God calls us as lay,
diaconal, presbyteral or episcopal."

>EBAR PICK

"Feasting on the Word Year C Volume 3: Pentecost and Season After
Pentecost 1" by David L. Bartlett, Hardcover, 398 pages, c. 2010,
$39.95.

[Westminster John Knox] With this lectionary commentary series,
Westminster John Knox Press offers one of the most extensive resources
for preaching on the market today.

For each lectionary text, preachers will find four brief essays -- one
each on the theological, pastoral, exegetical, and homiletical
challenges of the text. They might focus on the Gospel text, for
instance, by reading all four essays provided for that text, or they
might explore connections between the Hebrew Bible, Psalm, Gospel, and
Epistle texts by reading the theological essays for each one.

Each lectionary year will consist of four volumes, one for the Advent
and Christmas season, one for Lent and Easter, and one for each half
of Ordinary Time. While the twelve volumes of the series will follow
the pattern of the Revised Common Lectionary, each volume will contain
an index of biblical passages so that non-lectionary preachers may
make use of its contents.

Unlike commentaries that offer only one perspective on the assigned
texts for the day, this series offers four distinct viewpoints on each
of the four assigned texts, giving preachers sixteen different
approaches to the proclamation of the Word on any given occasion.
