PCT youth get ready to be leaders and influencers at home and abroad

PCT Youth Ministry Committee delegates held a seminar at Presbyterian Bible

College in Hsinchu on May 24-25 to train PCT youth planning to go on foreign

missions. About 30 youth participated in this seminar and they all had one
thing in

common: A vision for introducing Taiwan to the world and bringing home their

experiences from other countries to help Taiwan.

According to one staff member, interacting with other churches around the world

and promoting ecumenism is very important and PCT needs youth to stay involved

in the ecumenical movement over the long haul.

PCT Youth Ministry Chairman Sam Lee underscored the importance of training

church youth in understanding both social and church issues. During his
seminar,

he used an interesting acronym – ECFA – to draw his young listeners’ attention
to

>the importance and essence of youth ministry.

Lee said that youth participating in the ecumenical movement must show

commitment, stay rooted in their faith and in Taiwan, let their faith show
through

their perspectives, and become active participants in society so that it will
know

what churches value in every issue. Hence, ECFA stands for “Ecumenical”,

“Commitment” or “Confession”, “Formosa”, and “Action”.

“Your must stay in tune with Taiwan!” PCT Youth Ministry Secretary Itan
Pavavalong

exhorted the youth gathered at the seminar. He encouraged them to get to know

Taiwan better and identify with their homeland. To equip these youth, the
seminar

included sessions on history of PCT youth ministries, PCT partner churches and

>organizations, missions and theology, etc.

When interviewed afterward, many youth mentioned they’d learned a lot about

identity, commitment and maturity. The seminar had encouraged them to start

thinking about what they could do for their churches and how they could become

leaders and influencers in their churches through their experiences.
