â??Becoming WACC: Milestones on the roadâ??
WACC has developed a â??Timelineâ?? listing key milestones which have
contributed to its history and growth. The milestones range from
events taking place in 1918 to 2010. In 1968, World Committee for
Christian Broadcasting (WCCB) and the Co-ordinating Committee for
Christian Broadcasting (CCCB) merge to form the World Association for
Christian Communication (WACC) at its first Assembly in Oslo, Norway.

WACC President and General Secretary to be awarded Honorary
Doctorates
WACC President, Dennis Smith and General Secretary, Randy Naylor,
will receive honorary doctorates this summer, August 6, from the
Academy of Indian Theology and Church Administration which is
affiliated with Gurukul Lutheran Theological College & Research
Institute (formerly known as St Paulâ??s Theological College) based in
Chennai. The college Syndicate met on April 12th and agreed to award
them the degree of Doctor of Divinity. WACC Asia Chairperson, Sam
Meshack, is the Principal of the college and a member of the
Syndicate.

International religious leaders Summit
Press Release
Winnipeg, Canada: About 80 high profile religious leaders from around
the world will gather in Winnipeg from June 21- June 23 to listen and
report to one another but most importantly collaborate on sending
a unified message to government leaders of the G8/G20 nations. The
message will press governments to remain true to the eight Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) ratified by the 192 member states of the U.N.

Resources to combat HIV-related stigma
The â??Facilitatorâ??s Guide for Training on HIV and AIDS Stigma and
Discrimination Reductionâ?? is a practical resource for participatory
learning on understanding, recognizing and combating stigma. The Guide
lays out a systematic strategy for workshop discussions on issues such
as moral judgments, stigmatizing religious practices and coping with
stigma. Of special interest are the novel illustrations on forms of
stigma and discrimination adapted to an African social reality. Read

Online radio helps raise Bangladeshâ??s indigenous voices

Two years after Bangladesh adopts a new Community Radio Policy, the
community media landscape is changing. After radio broadcasters from
Asia and the Pacific gathered in Bangalore, India, to participate in
the 2nd conference of the World Association of Community Radio
Broadcasters (AMARC) Asia-Pacific chapter, one of the regionâ??s most
important breakthroughs for community broadcasting in South Asia took
place in Bangladesh. The government awarded licences to twelve

Salaam, Tanzania 26-27 March, 2010, to help journalists understand and

WACC Partner programme selected for prestigious TV festival
June 2, 2010: Along with programs from the BBC, ZDF (German national
television) and other TV stations from all over Europe, SAT-7â??s
documentary, â??Buthaynaâ??, has been selected for screening at the
European Television Festival of Religious Programmes in Berlin 2-6
June. 70 programmes from a total of 36 stations in Europe, Canada and
the Middle East were entered into the competition, and â??Buthaynaâ ??
is among the 23 programmes selected for screening at the festival.

Investigative journalism in Mexico is under attack
Operating in a climate permeated by violence and impunity, Mexico
City based investigative journalist Laura Castellanos continues to be
subjected to acts of intimidation because of her reporting on armed
groups and radical movements. According to ARTICLE 19, which issued an
Alert on 26 May 2010, the continued harassment of journalists
highlights the urgent need for the Mexican State to implement an
emergency mechanism to protect journalists at risk. WACC supports this
call for freedom of expression and, in the light of its latest issue
