Dr. James Laidlaw Maxwell arrived to Tainan City and founded a clinic there
145 years ago

on June 16. The clinic later became known as Sinlau Hospital and Maxwell’s
ministry

introduced the gospel to many Taiwanese people living in southern Taiwan.

To pay tribute to Maxwell and thank foreign missionaries currently serving in
Taiwan, Sinlau

Hospital Chaplain Committee invited all foreign missionaries currently serving
in Taiwan to

visit Tainan on June 15-16 as the hospital celebrated the unveiling of a new
plaque with the

>hospital’s official name.

According to Sinlau Hospital chaplain, Rev. Hsu Tien-hsien, PCT was founded
because of

Maxwell’s tireless efforts and answer to God’s calling, and many foreign
missionaries in

Taiwan today carry on Maxwell’s legacy by serving Taiwan wholeheartedly.

To show appreciation to these foreign missionaries and extend a warm welcome
to Church

World Mission students from around the world studying at Tainan Theological
College and

Seminary, Sinlau Hospital invited them all to attend a thanksgiving service
and a seminar on

missions held on June 15~16 and enjoy a time of fellowship together.

Sinlau Hospital CEO, Rev. Tung Tsung-lin, said during the thanksgiving
ceremony that after

Maxwell arrived to Tainan, he rented a small house near Tainan City’s west
gate to start a

clinic that included a pharmacy and a chapel. His ministry heralded the
beginning of medical

outreach ministries in Taiwan that led to the founding of Sinlau Hospital
later on.

During the service, Tung also announced that with cancer becoming one of the
top 10 causes

of death in Taiwan, Sinlau Hospital had added a “Cancer Information Center” on
June 17th to

>help cancer patients and their families.
