The Everett C. Parker Ethics in Telecommunications Lecture was created in 1983 to recognize Parker's pioneering work as an advocate for the public's rights in broadcasting.
The event is the only lecture in the country to examine telecommunications in the digital age from an ethical perspective. Together we will honor three individuals who exemplify Dr. Parker's achievements:
The Honorable Mignon Clyburn, Parker Lecturer. The Honorable Mignon Clyburn, Federal Communications Commissioner has distinguished herself as a bold leader committed to putting the public interest first in media and telecommunications policy.
Carol Pierson, Everett C. Parker Award. Ms. Carol Pierson, recently retired President and CEO of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, will be recognized for her 30-year career in public broadcasting and her work to help ensure tha public broadcasting serves people of color and other underserved communities.
Marcellus Alexander, Donald M. McGannon Award. Mr. Marcellus Alexander, Executive Vice President for Television of the National Association of Broadcasters and President, National Association of Broadcasters Education Fund (NABEF), will be recognized for his work to help open the industry for more women and persons of color.
Past Parker speakers include network presidents, Congressional leaders, Federal Communications Commission chairs and commissioners, as well as academics, cable and telephone executives, and journalists.
