To achieve that goal, the denomination will release funds by the end of the year from its âImagine No Malariaâ initiative to the Geneva-based Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Last week, funds were authorized for release to the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Funding will be used to train African health boards providing local delivery systems for malaria prevention, education and treatment. The denomination also is spearheading a national distribution of mosquito bednets in Sierra Leone at the end of November. [14]Read full story and post a comment» AIDS fund assists ostracized women in Congo NEW YORK (UMNS)âDuring the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, communities in and around Kabongo lived under the constant threat of the Congolese army and rebel groups who pillaged, raped, burned homes and confiscated food rations. Many women were infected by HIV/AIDS and ostracized from their communities as a result. The United Methodist Global AIDS Fund is working in Kabongo to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS and its spread and reduce the stigma associated with it.Observe [15]World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 to raise awareness and support projects like these. Ground broken on Bush library DALLAS (UMNS) â With ceremonial shovels of red dirt, former President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney and other dignitaries today kicked off construction of the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University. The library complex, set to open in 2013, will include a museum, a library and archives, a policy institute, and gift shops and cafés.
