AJC Condemns Brazen Assault on West Bank Mosque

June 8, 2011 - New York - AJC has condemned the arson attack on a mosque in the
West Bank.

"No house of worship, whatever the faith, should be so targeted and willfully
damaged," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "We categorically condemn
this attack on a mosque and hope the perpetrators will soon be found and
prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There can be no excuse, no
explanation, and no justification for such a brazen assault and desecration."

Israeli authorities suspect that Jewish residents with extremist views from a
nearby settlement struck the mosque in Maghayer, a village near Ramallah. The
mosque was torched and also sprayed with graffiti. It appears similar to an
attack on a mosque in Beit Fajjar, near Bethlehem, last October. At the time,
AJC also strongly condemned the incident.
