aThe worldwide nature of the church is a good concept, and I hope that

it can be translated into reality.a a Bishop John Innis of Liberia.

>Report focuses on global covenant

TAMPA, Fla. (UMNS) a With U.S. membership declining and membership

elsewhere increasing, is it time to rethink the denominationas

structure? In a report to General Conference, a diverse group of church

leaders wrestled with the future of the global village that is The

>United Methodist Church.

>Flash mob brings it for malaria

TAMPA, Fla. (UMNS) a It began with $10 and a bishop. Four years later,

The United Methodist Church has raised more than $20 million to help

eradicate malaria. But the April 25 observance of World Malaria Day

didnat end there. As the business of the General Conference resumed, a

flash mob took over the floor with a message of its own.

>Straw poll favors multiple agency boards

TAMPA, Fla. (UMNS) a After a full day of conversations about agency

reorganization, a nonbinding vote of the General Administration

Legislative Committee found the committee favored having multiple

agency boards overseeing multiple agencies. The vote was 48 to 35,

though there was some question whether two committee members voted

twice. For three days, the General Administration committee has

responsibility for evaluating the much-debated proposals to consolidate

various agencies and shrink their boards of directors into one board

overseeing multiple agencies. The committee did not take up a single

petition today. Instead, they spent much of the day asking questions

>and engaging in holy conversations.

>aGleea and God

TAMPA, Fla. (UMNS) a Fans of the TV series aGleea got together to watch

this weekas episode and talk about God. Joe (one of the high school

students in the fictional glee club) is aeveryoneas new teen Jesus,a

said the Rev. Becca Clark, a delegate from the New England Conference,

who led the discussion. Check it out: no slushies allowed.

>All-a-Twitter

The Twittersphere is buzzing with conversation about whatas happening

at General Conference. Hereas a small sampling:

Raeabileah: It's time to "re-examine" church investments in

Occupation and "reaffirm" commitment to justice by divesting!

IrishRemix8406: Petition 20028 to remove language forbidding

performing same-sex weddings just passed committee.

rev_zach: Word smithing is hard work when working with so many

>languages.

AWare12: Have to admit RevAdamHamilton hit the nail on the head when

he said renewal of the church will happen more in the local church.
